Television
- - Das Erste Deutsche Fernsehen. This is one of two television stations overseen by the German government. Germans have to pay a special fee (Rundfunkgebuehr) when buying television and/or radio sets. This fee is used to pay for programming on ARD and ZDF (Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen). The ARD offers a wealth of information, including news and sports, but entertainment also plays an important role in the ARD's programming.

It was also one of the first, when the government lifted its restrictions on the German broadcasting system in the late 1980s. It targets a diverse audience with shows like the Wheel of Fortune (Das Gluecksrad), the Harald Schmidt Show (a late night talk show, similar to Letterman and Leno), and Star Trek (dubbed in German language).
