Cinematic Arts & Theatre - Scholarships
General Scholarship Information
The UNA Department of Cinematic Arts and Theatre offers a variety of scholarships to incoming students as well as sophomores, juniors and seniors enrolled in the program. Requirements vary by individual scholarship.
Gladys Shepard Endowed Scholarship
Gladys Shepard Endowed Scholarship is for incoming freshmen who are declared as Cinematic Arts and Theatre majors. Students must have an ACT composite score of at least 20 and a high school GPA of 3.0 on 4.0 scale. An audition/interview is required.
Edith Hand & George Lindsey Endowed Scholarships
The Hand and Lindsey scholarships are awarded to sophomores, juniors or seniors who are declared first as Cinematic Arts and Theatre majors. Recipients must be enrolled full-time and have a 2.5 GPA. Recipients are also selected based on their contributions to the department.
Frank Mosier Endowed Scholarship
The Mosier Scholarship is awarded to a junior who will be a senior at UNA prior to attending graduate school in Cinematic Arts and Theatre. Recipients are also selected based on their contributions to the department.
UNA Fine Arts Merit Scholarships
For Cinematic Arts and Theatre majors, UNA Fine Arts Merit Scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen or transfer students accepted unconditionally by UNA (by February 1st) with a GPA of at least 2.75. An audition/interview is required.
UNA Cinematic Arts and Theatre Departmental ScholarshipsTheatre scholarships are awarded to UNA Cinematic Arts and Theatre majors based on an audition/interview/portfolio and require participation in UNA Cinematic Arts and Theatre productions as assigned by faculty.
Application Process and Requirements
Applications will be considered on the basis of academic merit, talent, character and demonstrated achievement in or more areas of cinematic arts and theatre. Students may be an incoming freshman or transferring from another institution. All applicants must enroll as full-time students majoring in Cinematic Arts and Theatre. All scholarships are awarded without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin or disability.
To apply for Cinematic Arts and Theatre scholarships, students must:

(2) Be accepted unconditionally by UNA.
(3) Students who wish to pursue a major or minor in Cinematic Arts and Theatre must complete the brief application and entrance requirements detailed below. To submit your requirements:
- Visit where you will create your Acceptd profile and complete the Cinematic Arts and Theatre application.
- Upload your materials in your Acceptd profile
- Submit your application
(4) Interview with Cinematic Arts and Theatre Faculty (remotely or in-person)
(5) Prepare an audition or portfolio as follows (optional):
Submit one of the following via Acceptd:
Film Production Concentration
An up to 5 minute showreel or short film. Include a single short film or short clips from multiple video projects. |In fewer than 100 words, indicate your role in the production(s).
Or
10 still photography or illustrations that conveys your creative voice. The images should tell a story or have a unifying conceptual principle. In fewer than 100 words, describe the theme.
Or
A creative writing example. Submit either a screenplay or short story (up to 500 words) that will give us some insight into the type of storyteller you are.
Acting for Stage and Screen Concentration
Two memorized and filmed monologues or short scenes no longer than two minutes each. For scenes, your scene partner should be off-camera. You can film these with a camera, web camera, or phone. Material can be from theatre, film, or television.
Or
An up to 5-minute performance reel. Include a single short video or short clips from multiple video projects or theatrical performances. In fewer than 100 words, indicate your role.
Design and Tech Concentration
A portfolio of creative work. This may include writing, inspiration collages, photographs, and drawings. Show us examples of lighting, design, and tech that you've done. Please include both process and finished production shots if available.
Auditions and Portfolio Requirements
Actors should be ready to present two contrasting monologues (not exceed 5 minutes total) along with an acting résumé. Designers and technicians should be ready to present visual representations of their work (actual designs, photographs or a complete portfolio) as a part of their interview process. The audition serves as an opportunity for a student to display their ability, meet the faculty and have questions answered concerning the Department of Cinematic Arts & Theatre student life at UNA. Campus tours are also available.
