What are the Admission Requirements?

To be admitted into our program, students must meet the following conditions:

Preparation: For admission to the program, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and at least 24 hours in history, including up to twelve hours below the 300-level, or have completed a major or minor in history.

Scholastic Achievement:  Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale in all previous undergraduate and graduate coursework.

Test Scores: Applicants must meet GRE minimum scores in two of three areas: Verbal, 146; Quantitative, 140; Analytical Writing, 3.5. (The GRE subject test in history is not required for admission.

Recommendations: To be considered for admission, applicants must request three letters of recommendation and supply the email addresses of their references at the time of their application. We take care of the rest; recommenders will submit their letters online directly to UNA.

Application Essay: This essay (approximately 250-350 words) should describe why you wish to pursue an M.A. in History or Public History, goals for graduate study, and areas you wish to study.

Writing Sample: This should be a minimum of 1,200 words, preferably a research or scholarly essay or paper from previous classes. It may also be a sample of professional or creative writing.

HOW TO APPLY:

Step 1: Apply Online

Step 2: Request letters of recommendation

To be considered for admission, applicants must request three letters of recommendation and supply the email addresses of their references at the time of their application. We take care of the rest; recommenders will submit their letters online directly to UNA.

Step 3: Request official transcripts

Request official transcripts from each institution previously attended whether or not you received a degree from that institution.  We will obtain transcripts related to coursework completed at the 国产AV.  Official transcripts can be sent through an electronic transcript service to graduate@una.edu or mailed to:  Office of Graduate Admissions, UNA Box 5078, Florence, AL 35632.    

Step 4: Submit official test score report for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE):
