Spring Semester Closedown
Important Dates
- Thursday, May 9th at 4pm: University Housing Closes (apartments/halls). Exceptions include graduates and residents with summer apartment contracts.
- Sunday, May 12th at 4pm: Check-out deadline for Graduating Students (residence halls).
- Friday, May 10th - Monday, May 13th: Summer Hall Students Relocate to summer housing.
- Wednesday, May 15th at 4pm: Check-out deadline for Graduating Students (apartments).
- Monday, July 15th at 4pm: Check-out deadline for apartment residents that are not enrolled in summer housing AND have no active contract for 2024-2025.
- Wednesday, July 31st at 4pm: Check-out deadline for apartment residents that are enrolled in summer housing AND have no active contract for 2024-2025.
Late Check-Out Requests
- Residents requesting a late check-out date due to an official university reason must submit a request to their Area Coordinator for review .
- Examples of approved reasons include graduation involvement, campus employment, student organization training, etc.
- Examples of non-approved reasons include travel restrictions, social obligations, etc.
Floor Meetings
- Every resident must attend a closedown floor meeting. This can be any meeting within your hall (for example, if you live on 2nd and are unavailable at that time then you can go to the 4th floor meeting).
- If you absolutely cannot attend due to class requirements or work obligations, you may arrange to meet with a Resident Advisor in your hall within 72 hours of the floor meeting.
- Apartment residents will receive this information in an email and letter which will be delivered to your mailbox/apartment.
Official Check-Outs
- You must officially check out of the residence halls and apartments using the Express Check-Out process.
- Unofficial check-outs will be charged a lock change fee, dependent upon assigned location ($85-$160), an applicable cleaning fee ($50-$500) and/or any damage charges.

Check-Out Process
- Remove all personal belongings. Residents CANNOT leave personal items in any space other than their summer assignment. This applies to apartments and residence halls.
- Clean your room thoroughly. See the detailed list below. All residents in a room/cluster/apartment will be held responsible for commonly shared areas.
- Reset your furniture. Double rooms should be a mirror image of each other.
- Return your key to the Housing & Residence Life office. There are envelopes and a lockbox provided in the HRL lobby that is accessible 24/7. Fill out the envelope and seal your key inside before dropping in the lockbox.
- Your room/apartment will be assessed for damages and cleaning charges within 48 hours of your departure. Damages will be documented by HRL and added to your student account.
Cleaning Tasks
- Take out your trash and dispose in the proper location. Large items must be taken outside.
- Clean your room. Sweep, Vacuum, and Mop Floors. Dust furniture.
- Clean bathrooms, kitchens, lounges, and living areas, if applicable. This includes counters, toilets, tubs, sinks, glass, fridge, etc.
- Lower and open your blinds. Turn off all lights.
Summer Hall
- Summer Hall residents will stay in their spring assignment until notified that their summer assignment is ready. This will occur between Friday, May 10th-Monday, May 13th. You may pick up your summer assignment key in the HRL office in Rivers Hall once contacted.
- Residents will have 24 hours to complete the Spring to Summer move once approval to move is granted. You must check-out of your spring assignment using the process described above.
