Psychology Scholarships and Awards
We will continue to update different funding opportunities that are available to our UNA Psychology Students each semester. New rounds for applications typically recur once or twice a year — so you may be eligible in the future even if you are not currently eligible to apply.

Psi Chi Undergraduate Scholarship: This is a scholarship dedicated to helping defray the direct educational costs of exceptional Psi Chi undergraduate students. The award consists of eight scholarships of $3,000 awarded annually for a total of $24,000. Any undergraduate Psi Chi member who will be or is currently in a psychology major and has not previously received a Psi Chi undergraduate scholarship is eligible to apply. Psi Chi Undergraduate Research Grants: By providing funds for undergraduate Psi Chi student members who will serve as first author and project director, the Undergraduate Research Grants help to defray direct costs (barring tuition, research assistants, etc.) of the student’s original, empirical, research projects as well as introduce students to the process of applying and managing research grants. The Undergraduate Research Grants provide funds for well - rounded applications which demonstrate competence of and commitment to psychology’s best research practices. An annual total of $75,000 in funding is available to student research projects. The first author of the proposal must be a Psi Chi member, an enrolled undergraduate student, and have at least one faculty member serve as a mentor to oversee the project. National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undergraduate Scholarship: This Program offers competitive scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical, behavioral, and social science health-related research. The NIH Undergraduate Scholarship Program offers scholarship support, paid research training at the NIH during the summer, and paid employment and training at the NIH after graduation. The program awards up to $20,000 per year in scholarships, research training, and employment training. Sharon Stephens Brehm Undergraduate Psychology Scholarship: This scholarship will recognize outstanding psychology undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need. The Brehm 19 Scholarships will help defray the students’ direct educational costs (e.g. tuition, institutional fees, required textbooks, etc.). There are seven $5,000 scholarships available to those who apply. In order to apply, you must be an undergraduate student majoring in psychology at an accredited college or university, have a minimum 3.50 G.P.A., and demonstrate financial need. North Alabama AHEC Scholars Program: North Alabama AHEC Scholars is a nationwide training program for aspiring leaders pursuing health related professions. It is intended for students who are currently enrolled in a two-year or longer degree or certification program. Participants of AHEC Scholars will engage in team-based clinical and/or community-based experiences providing care to vulnerable and underserved patients in settings such as homeless shelters, free clinics, community health centers, health fairs, and more. They will learn together as interprofessional teams, completing both academic training via an online classroom and practical, field training. The primary focus is on preparing them to be leaders and to care for Alabama’s medically needy populations. Program duration is two years and includes 40 hours community-based, experiential, or clinical training in rural/underserved area, 40 hours online classroom education, and a $1,000 incentive. Any student with an interest in rural and/or underserved health care issues are encouraged to apply. Additionally, each applicant must be enrolled in an Alabama based college-level health professions training program of at least two years in length (including social work, psychology, public health) and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The application deadline is October 10th, 2022.
